Feed bag, Aguacatán crochet
$40.00
Crocheted by the Awateko Maya of Aguacatán, these are called Feed Bags because they are used for sewing corn. A man walks thru his field with a bag full of grains of corn and a sharp-pointed stick so that without bending over to make a hole, he can toss in a few grains. These have not been changed for commerce and are made to last a lifetime. Stiff and made with a very thick gauge cotton thread. Single unlined compartment 16" tall x 13" wide is open with no zipper and uses the typical Mayan adjustable strap. Traditional Black and White done with Geometric or a variety of Animal patterns; choose from Large Cat, Small Cats, Large Deer, Large Fish, Small Fishes, Large Horse, Small Horses; there is also one with a Mayan kneeling and presenting a staff to a lion.
